Let’s delve into the question of “How Much is it to Get Wisdom Teeth Removed”.

The last set of molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth, usually don’t require special attention when they emerge healthily and align correctly in the mouth. Despite this, approximately 10 million wisdom teeth are extracted annually in the United States. The primary reason for their removal is often pain caused by insufficient space in the mouth, leading to impacted teeth stuck beneath the gumline.

Wisdom teeth can pose various issues, including crowding or misalignment of adjacent teeth, damage to neighboring teeth, the development of cysts causing jaw harm, and the induction of inflammation and cavities. While the extraction of wisdom teeth is a common procedure, it can be financially burdensome, especially in cases of impacted teeth.

The cost of wisdom teeth removal without insurance varies based on several factors. For simple extractions of fully emerged teeth, the expenses typically range between $250 and $700 per tooth, with an average cost of $350. In the case of impacted teeth, removal costs range from $415 to $750 per tooth, with an average between $400 and $500. The lower prices are associated with erupted teeth or impacted teeth inside the gums, while the higher prices are for teeth lodged in the jawbone or positioned closer to vital structures such as sinuses and nerves.

Several factors influence the overall cost of wisdom teeth removal, including the tooth’s condition (erupted or impacted), the number of teeth requiring extraction, the type of anesthesia chosen, the patient’s age, the geographical location and the type of dentist performing the procedure. Specialists fees are typically higher than a general dentist due to the higher level of expertise and experience. Erupted teeth are simpler to remove, while impacted teeth demand more resources, time, and skill, resulting in higher costs. Extraction costs are per tooth, meaning that removing only one problematic wisdom tooth is less expensive than extracting all four. The type of anesthesia, such as local anesthesia or sedation, can also affect the overall cost. Additionally, the age of the patient and the geographical location, particularly in large cities, can contribute to higher extraction costs, as older adults may have denser bones and surgical procedures may be more complex. To get a better idea of prices for wisdom teeth removal for you or your loved one specifically, call our office at 770-764-0840 to schedule an appointment. We will be more than happy to help answer all your questions.

Will insurance cover the complete expense of wisdom teeth removal?

Typically, dental insurance does NOT cover the entire cost of wisdom teeth extraction. Even with insurance coverage you will still pay a significant portion due to the limited amount of coverage provided by most dental insurance.

The extent of your payment is contingent on the specifics of your dental insurance policy.

However, uncertainties may arise regarding your share of the cost. If your wisdom teeth have surfaced, you might need to contribute 20% of the cost. On the other hand, if they are impacted, the procedure is likely considered major, requiring you to cover half the bill.

It is important to note that most dental insurance plans have an annual maximum. Consequently, if you are having all four teeth removed, the cost may surpass this limit, and you would then be responsible for 100% of each dollar exceeding your maximum.

What can you anticipate paying out of pocket for wisdom teeth removal?

In the absence of dental coverage, you will be accountable for the entire bill, encompassing the tooth extraction cost and additional expenses such as:

  1. The initial exam, typically priced at around $165, and X-rays, ranging from $160 to $290.
  2. Anesthesia costs, varying between $215 to $300 per 15-minute increment, with an initial general anesthesia cost estimated at $260.
  3. Pain medication, often involving over-the-counter options or, in some cases, prescribed opioids, costing around $60-70 retail.
  4. Follow-up visits, for which you may incur additional charges if not included in the surgery’s price.

Additional costs for potential complications:

  1. Operculectomy, a procedure to remove gum tissue, adding $185 to $400 per tooth.
  2. Treatment for dry socket, a common complication, with the application of a zinc oxide paste costing $70 or less.
  3. Infection treatment, involving antibiotics such as amoxicillin or clindamycin, each priced at less than $15 -30

For those without existing dental coverage, we offer third party financing that allows you to cover our treatment and pay it off slowly over time. If you have further questions you can call our office at 770-764-0840 to schedule a consultation.

What is the Cost of Dental Implants?

If you would like to learn more or find out specifically how much your implants will cost, we recommend scheduling a consultation by calling our office at 770-764-0840.

Dental implant procedures vary widely, leading to a diverse range of costs. Dental implant procedures are intricate and involve multiple components, resulting in varying fees for each stage. The cost components for obtaining new teeth encompass:

  • A comprehensive dental exam, including 3D imaging
  • Extraction of problematic teeth, if necessary
  • Placement of dental implant(s)
  • Placement of abutment hardware
  • Fabrication of the dental crown
  • Placement of the crown or tooth

The expenses associated with each stage are contingent upon the dental practice and whether the dentist is a specialist or a general dentist. Some practices may provide a complimentary computed tomography (CT) scan as an initial incentive, while others may charge between $290 and $500 for the 3D imaging service. Dental implants are considered a long-term investment, the total cost per single tooth, from start to finish, typically ranges from $3,000 to $4,500. For those in need of multiple implants, the overall price may range from $35,000 to $70,000.

The absence of a standardized cost is attributed to the unique nature of each procedure. Variables such as the inclusion of a CT scan in the preliminary exam, the necessity for a sinus lift or bone graft, and the type of bone graft utilized can significantly impact the final price. Additionally, geographical location plays a role, with larger metropolitan areas generally having higher costs.

In summary, it is advisable to inquire about the specific cost for your individual case in advance.

Cost Breakdown for a Single Tooth Implant

When considering the cost of a single tooth implant, it’s crucial to recognize that the implant itself is just the metal or ceramic screw inserted into the jawbone. Apart from the implant, expenses include the abutment (connecting the crown to the implant) and the crown. Some patients may also require procedures like a sinus lift or bone graft, contributing to the overall cost.

Based on the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute cost survey, the total expense for a single tooth implant, abutment, crown, and related procedures ranges from $3,100 to $5,800.

Cost Considerations for Multiple Tooth Implants

For individuals replacing multiple adjacent teeth, various implant options offer flexibility in pricing. For instance, a bridge supported by two implants may be suitable for filling a gap of three or four neighboring teeth. This alternative can be more cost-effective, ranging from $6,000 to $10,000, as two implants can support three or four adjacent teeth, reducing the overall expense compared to individual implants.

Given the various approaches to complete tooth replacement for a full mouth, there exists a broad spectrum of pricing.

The pricier alternative involves the individual replacement of teeth. This method, offering greater comfort and the preservation of some existing healthy teeth, typically incurs costs ranging from $50,000 to $70,000.

A more economical choice is implant-supported dentures, where two full sets of false teeth take the place of natural upper and lower teeth, following the removal of any remaining teeth. Similar to non-implant-supported dentures, this option involves anchoring the arch to four to six implants in each upper and lower jaw.

Recognized by the trademarked name All-on-4, this approach generally falls within the range of $24,000 to $50,000 for a complete set.

Hopefully this gives you some idea of the prices and an understanding of why it’s difficult to give a specific price without a consultation.

If you would like to learn more or find out specifically how much your implants will cost, we recommend scheduling a consultation by calling our office at 770-764-0840.

Wisdom teeth are not so wise sometimes. When are wisdom teeth extractions recommended.

With age comes wisdom. Specifically, wisdom teeth.

Your mouth goes through many changes in your lifetime. One major dental milestone that usually takes place between the ages of 17 and 21 is the appearance of your third molars. Historically, these teeth have been called wisdom teeth because they come through at a more mature age.

When they come through correctly, healthy wisdom teeth can help you chew. It’s normal to feel a little discomfort when your wisdom teeth appear, but if you have pain, see your dentist immediately.

Room to Grow?

Wisdom teeth can lead to problems if there isn’t enough space for them to surface or they come through in the wrong position. If your dentist says your wisdom teeth are impacted, he or she means they are trapped in your jaw or under your gums.

As your wisdom teeth make their way through your gums, your dentist will be monitoring your mouth for signs of the following:

Wisdom teeth that aren’t in the right position can allow food to become trapped. That gives cavity-causing bacteria a place to grow.

Wisdom teeth that haven’t come in properly, which can make it difficult to floss between the wisdom teeth and the molars next to them.

Wisdom teeth that have partially come through can give bacteria a place to enter the gums and create a place for infection to occur. This may also lead to pain, swelling and stiffness in your jaw.

Wisdom teeth that don’t have room to come through are thought by some to crowd or damage neighboring teeth.

A wisdom tooth that is impacted can form a cyst on or near the impacted tooth. This could damage the roots of nearby teeth or destroy the bone that supports your teeth.

Why You Might Need to Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Every patient is unique, but in general, wisdom teeth may need to be removed when there is evidence of changes in the mouth such as:

Pain

Infection

Cysts

Tumors

Damage to neighboring teeth

Gum disease

Tooth decay (if it is not possible or desirable to restore the tooth)

Your dentist may also recommend removal of wisdom teeth as part of treatment for braces or other dental care.

Before making any decisions, your oral surgeon will examine your mouth and take an x-ray. Together, you and your oral surgeon can discuss the best course of treatment. Typically if the erupting teeth present problems wisdom teeth extractions is recommended.

Keeping Your Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth that are not removed should continue to be monitored because the potential for developing problems later on still exists. As people age, they are at greater risk for health problems—and that includes potential problems with their wisdom teeth. Be sure to, floss around your wisdom teeth and visit your dentist regularly. Regular dental visits allow your dentist to evaluate your wisdom teeth and your overall dental health. Learn more about wisdom teeth extractions and recovery Here!

How do Dental Implants Work? What are dental implants? These are just a few of the common questions we get as Oral Surgeons.

Simply put, a dental implant is a titanium screw that’s surgically implanted into the jaw bone where teeth are missing. The dental implant acts as the root or anchor of a tooth, a crown or tooth is later attached to the implant either by cementation or by screwing it in, this now becomes a new tooth that functions and looks much like a natural tooth.

There are various factors in dental implant placement that will make the surgery a success. There has to be adequate bone, no active infection, no immune suppressed conditions (or controlled) and no para-functional habits such as bruxing or grinding of teeth.

If you have specific questions that you would like to discuss. Call us today 770-764-0840, we would be happy to schedule an appointment for you. You can also read more about Dental implants surgery HERE!

We get many questions from our readers regarding pain and what to expect after wisdom teeth surgery. Good news is you’ve come to the right place as Oral Surgeons we perform hundreds of wisdom teeth extraction per year. We see many of our patients for follow up and we have had the chance to ask each and every one about their experience, good or bad.

The good news is most patients have a relatively good recovery. The bad news is pain is a subjective thing. Some patients report having no pain whatsoever while others complain of extreme pain.

We usually will prescribe an anti-inflammatory as well as opioids as needed to help manage post surgical pain and swelling.

Most pain and swelling should resolve within 5 – 7 days providing there is no other post-surgical complication. So long as you take your prescribed medications you should feel minimal discomfort.

Another method to help minimize pain is to place ice packs on the face, the coolness helps to soothe the pain along with slow the release of inflammatory mediators hence minimizing inflammation/swelling.

Hope this helps answer the question regarding post wisdom teeth surgery pain and recovery. Not exactly black and white but this is the general experience for most patients.
