This improves accuracy and minimizes injury to vital structures. Our patients enjoy safety and comfort with our anesthesia options such as IV sedation and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). Whether you need a single tooth implant replacement or full mouth dental implants call us to schedule a consultation 770-764-0840.
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Egolum is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.
Dr. Egolum also utilizes cone beam CT imaging and surgical guides to plan and place your dental implants to improve accuracy and success of the implants. Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral surgeon and your general dentist. Dr. Egolum performs the actual implant placement surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. Your regular dentist fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your regular dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

Wisdom teeth are not so wise sometimes. When are wisdom teeth extractions recommended.
With age comes wisdom. Specifically, wisdom teeth.
Your mouth goes through many changes in your lifetime. One major dental milestone that usually takes place between the ages of 17 and 21 is the appearance of your third molars. Historically, these teeth have been called wisdom teeth because they come through at a more mature age.
When they come through correctly, healthy wisdom teeth can help you chew. It’s normal to feel a little discomfort when your wisdom teeth appear, but if you have pain, see your dentist immediately.
Room to Grow?
Wisdom teeth can lead to problems if there isn’t enough space for them to surface or they come through in the wrong position. If your dentist says your wisdom teeth are impacted, he or she means they are trapped in your jaw or under your gums.
As your wisdom teeth make their way through your gums, your dentist will be monitoring your mouth for signs of the following:
Wisdom teeth that aren’t in the right position can allow food to become trapped. That gives cavity-causing bacteria a place to grow.
Wisdom teeth that haven’t come in properly, which can make it difficult to floss between the wisdom teeth and the molars next to them.
Wisdom teeth that have partially come through can give bacteria a place to enter the gums and create a place for infection to occur. This may also lead to pain, swelling and stiffness in your jaw.
Wisdom teeth that don’t have room to come through are thought by some to crowd or damage neighboring teeth.
A wisdom tooth that is impacted can form a cyst on or near the impacted tooth. This could damage the roots of nearby teeth or destroy the bone that supports your teeth.
Why You Might Need to Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed
Every patient is unique, but in general, wisdom teeth may need to be removed when there is evidence of changes in the mouth such as:
Pain
Infection
Cysts
Tumors
Damage to neighboring teeth
Gum disease
Tooth decay (if it is not possible or desirable to restore the tooth)
Your dentist may also recommend removal of wisdom teeth as part of treatment for braces or other dental care.
Before making any decisions, your oral surgeon will examine your mouth and take an x-ray. Together, you and your oral surgeon can discuss the best course of treatment. Typically if the erupting teeth present problems wisdom teeth extractions is recommended.
Keeping Your Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth that are not removed should continue to be monitored because the potential for developing problems later on still exists. As people age, they are at greater risk for health problems—and that includes potential problems with their wisdom teeth. Be sure to, floss around your wisdom teeth and visit your dentist regularly. Regular dental visits allow your dentist to evaluate your wisdom teeth and your overall dental health. Learn more about wisdom teeth extractions and recovery Here!
Many people often ask “are oral surgeon consultations free?” Read on to learn more.
Lets answer the question “are oral surgeon consultations free?” The short answer is no, read on for the details. We are a patient-centered practice, we value providing you with personalized care! Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and detailing your treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan may require further evaluation and a subsequent appointment to provide treatment on another day.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
● Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable.
● A comprehensive list of your health history, hospitalizations, past surgeries and medications you are presently taking (prescription and over-the-counter)
● If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary documentation. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the consultation visit and day of the procedure. Also, please bring relevant legal documentation if you are the non-biological guardian of a minor.
A preoperative consultation and physical examination is MANDATORY for patients undergoing IV sedation / general anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink eight hours prior to your surgery. You will also need a responsible adult to drive you home and assist you with filling your prescriptions etc.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to your appointment (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, history of chemo/radiation, history of oral/IV bisphosphonates etc.) or if you are currently taking any medications (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, blood thinners etc.).
If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays you may request that they forward them in advance to our office via email. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office on the day of your appointment. Frequently additional images are required to aid in diagnosis and treatment, they can be taken at our facility.
Oral surgeons are excellently trained in their craft. We spend over 12 years learning and training. The cost to provide this expert knowledge, cost of acquiring the necessary imaging and the time required prevent initial consultations from being a free service. The typical cost for consultation will vary depending on whether you need specialized imaging or the complexity of your visit. Call our office if you have specific questions at 770-764-0840, our staff is waiting and happy to help.
